Help Writing

I spent today updating another blog of mine, Writer’s Doctor: Writing, Editing, Tutoring. I made it when I had extra time after choosing my family’s health over my teaching job during the peak of Covid, back in the fall of 2020. I tried promoting it but my SEO chops had gotten outpaced by the social media explosion and my heart really wasn’t in that part of it anyway: I missed teaching, helping kids (still do). I did have one bite initially, from someone who wanted to pay me to write their college papers for them. Yikes. (What do you think I did?)

So I’m shamelessly using this blog to try promoting the one thing I can actually do well: write, edit, and tutor. One of the main things I updated today was to add a “Fiction” section to my portfolio because that’s a much more recent development. So far I’ve had four short stories published, excerpted from my first novel, and they’re each available to read for free on that page. I just finished the sequel novel, and haven’t sent much out for that one yet but hope to soon (I think it’s better than the first one). Like zillions of other writers, I’m trying to find an agent still.

The other thing I updated was my resume, which was a bit out of date. There’s a long version and a shorter, prettier one. Take your pick (see below).

So if you know anyone who could use some help with the written word, let me know, or share Writer’s Doctor with them. I work cheap. I’m a little late for college/grad school admission essay season, but maybe you know a procrastinator out there who could use a grammar czar.

In the meantime, it’s tick season and we’re trying to get fit and keep the dogs and ourselves sane while not getting shot by turkey hunters. It’s been a banner spring for the arrowleaf balsam root super bloom. Summer’s coming, and then you know what follows.

Finally, I’m working on self-publishing a printed collection of pieces from Chukar Culture, along with some new, unpublished, longer pieces. I’m hoping to have that done and available in time for the season opening.
